PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

2008

This year we welcomed ITV Productions and their production “Martin Clunes: A man and his dogs” (see testimonials) and had a great time traversing the outback shooting dingoes (with a camera of course) The crew were great and so was Martin who took the heat and flies in his stride, even when we had to shoot at the local rubbish tip! On this project our role was Location Fixer, Unit Manager and Aboriginal Liasion.

Another UK crew arrived in March, this time from BBC 4 and their renowned Natural History Unit. ASFTV supplied a small unit and Location fixed this 1 X 60 minute documentary on Central Australia ”The Red Heart” to screen later this year (also see testimonials)

Currently we are producing three separate DVDs for local clients, one for Yirara College and another for Waltja, an Aboriginal organisation that specialises in remote Aboriginal community projects. ASFTV also recently trained some Phd students in media techniques at the Desert Knowledge CRC.

2007

In 2007 we had a rush of new corporate and government clients including the Australian Institute of Management, the world-acclaimed Alice Springs Desert Park and were even out shooting games for the West Coast Eagles Football Club!
We provided location scouting and unit management for a Honda Japan stills campaign and produced a corporate documentary at the remote Aboriginal Community of Docker River for the Federal Department of Health and Ageing. We were also contracted by the Federal Department
of Family and community services to produce 6 X 30 TVCs for their substance abuse campaign. Locations and unit for National Geographic magazine, locations for a Tigerlily swimwear stills shoot and news shoots for TV3 New Zealand and the 7 network rounded off a busy year.

2006

We started off the year with acclaimed Entertainer and Artist Rolf Harris down at Ayer's Rock/Uluru. ASFTV supplied a digibeta camera crew for BBC and their series "Rolf on Art”. We also supplied a unit for the production including a solar-powered production trailer, catering, shade structures, seating, water and, most importantly, a large car fridge/freezer in the 40 degree plus (celsius) conditions!

January/February also saw us produce two back-to-back video clips, "Only make believe" and "Janine-care of the stars" for country music star Ronni Rae Rivers, who is currently based in Nashville. The former clip reached number 1 nationally on the Country Music Channel top 30 country clip chart.

March/April saw us Location Scout and manage a video clip for the well-known Japanese hip-hop band Ketsumeishi. As so many of our clients choose, ASFTV also supplied a remote unit to make life bearable (and safe) for cast and crew.

In May we covered the corporate world with Australia's biggest bank, NAB. ASFTV were contracted to shoot the dvd for a 3 day conference of their 100 top bankers at Ayer's Rock/Uluru.

In 2006 we successfully cast a K Mart TVC and catalogue campaign for Cummins and Partners Agency Melbourne, providing unit support for cast and crew. We also spent months casting for a major role in Baz Luhrmann’s new Australian feature film, “Australia”.

Speaking of unit management, we spent 3 weeks travelling the desert with the cast and crew of Lonely Planet Television’s “Going Bush” documentary series for SBS TV. ASFTV supplied personnel, full catering, camp and emergency equipment for this challenging desert exercise. Presenters Cathy Freeman (star of the Sydney 2000 Olympics) and Actor Luke Carrol were true professionals and a pleasure to work with.

Later in the year we pushed into Australia’s North again, into the crocodile-infested waters of Kakadu National Park scouting for the OPTA agency and their famous “where the bloody hell are you?” Tourism campaign.

We were also Location Managers and scouts for the Disney Channel Kid’s series “Double Trouble”, and completed the year working with renowned London Agency Dewynters PLC on a week-long photoshoot for the Royal Ballet, providing Location scouting and Production Management in Australia for their world-class stills campaign designed for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

2005

In January we completed a contract for the National Australia Day Council as Event Managers and concept co-Authors of “Uluru Dawn” (see testimonials). This was a high profile national media event attended by the Governor General, and featuring well known Australians such as Steve Waugh and George Negus.

Mid-year we completed work as Location Manager on the Nine Network/Southern Star production of “The Alice”. This is a 22 X 1 hr TV series.

We also returned from our second location scouting job for acclaimed director Baz Luhrmann and his latest feature “Australia”, this time Baz sent us up into the Kimberley region of Western Australia.

In 2005 we produced the entire DVD album “Chandelier of Stars” for EMI Music's John Williamson, which was released in January 2006.

2004

In October 2004 we were location scouting for the Columbia Tri-star production of “Ghostrider”, a US $80million feature starring Nicolas Cage and based on the Marvel comic-book character.

ASFTV were also out on a ‘spider-hunt’ in the desert west of Alice Springs with the Animal Planet documentary “Tarantula” (see testimonials). Alice Springs Film and Television supplied all remote logistics for the solar-powered base camp including vehicles, bedding, catering and mains battery-charging capabilities for the cameras, sound gear and scientific instruments (and of course…the fridge!)

In September we spent 8 days shooting around Central Australia with Australian Country music star John Williamson. Speaking of country music, in August ASFTV completed the comedy music video production of “Come along for the ride” featuring Brendon Walmsley and Jim Haynes.

In late April we supplied a crew to visit the isolated Aboriginal community of Papunya to shoot a piece for the SBS Television currents affairs program “Insight”.

From February to April we were Location Manager for the Southern Star Production of “The Alice”, a 1 X 90 minute Telemovie shot on super-16 for the Nine Network Australia.

At year’s beginning, Alice Springs Film and Television were Location Fixers for BBC TV on the very popular live-to-air game show “Lottery Jet Set”.

2003

In December 2003 we produced, directed and shot the music video “Forever precious” on location in Bali, Indonesia. In a difficult physical and emotional environment, shoot locations necessarily included the Bali bomb sites at the Sari Club and Paddy’s bar. All proceeds from the song will go to the Balinese widows and children left behind by the tragedy, and to the many Balinese injured.

In the middle of last year we completed location scouting in Central Australia for the $310 million Dino De Laurentis production of the epic feature “Alexander the Great”, which will be directed by Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge).

We also successfully completed a 2 month contract with NASA Goddard Space Flight Centre USA, filming exclusive footage for the aerospace giant of the world’s largest super pressure balloon launch. This involved shooting and co-ordinating vision from two cameras on the ground and two others transmitting from remote cameras on the payload.

Another client for the year was Chatsworth TV (UK) for BBC 2. This entailed location-fixing for the helicopter-based international quiz show “Treasure Hunt”, filmed in and around Alice Springs.

Additionally in 2003, ASFTV completed production on the 1 X 24 minute historical documentary “A Rush for Grass” .

In the world of Australian country music, ASFTV also completed another music video for EMI Australia, “You are very welcome” by Australian country music legend John Williamson. The song was written for the Rugby World Cup, which was held in Australia in October 2003. It was shot and produced entirely in Central Australia. This was Chris’s third time directing and shooting videos featuring John, the others being “Buried in her Bedclothes” and “Raining on the Rock” from way back in 1997.

In 2003 Chris was named as a finalist for ‘Video Director of the Year’ at the industry-voted ‘Australian Country music Achiever Awards’ in Sydney.

Also in 2003 Chris was awarded the Centenary Medal by Australia’s Federal Government for his original concept, “Yeperenye Festival” (see below).

2002

In 2002, our music video for Ted Egan, “Old Ned” was a finalist for a Golden Guitar award in the “Video clip of the year” category at the 2002 Australian Country Music Awards in Tamworth.

Chris also came up with the original creative concept for the biggest event of Australia’s Centenary of Nationhood, Yeperenye Festival. He later had to swap brain hemispheres when he was appointed Logistics manager for this spectacular $3.2 million event.
He worked side by side most of the key creative and logistical personnel from the Sydney 2000 Olympics opening ceremony.

The year before he came up with the concept for “Redstorm” a 1 X 60 minute documentary on duststorms for National Geographic Channel International. His credits on the project included Writer, Associate Producer, and Head Researcher. It has been shown worldwide in 130 countries.
